Sharon Louthian

American by birth and Moroccan-Berber by marriage, I first traveled to Morocco as a tourist and fell in love with the country and its people (one in particular). Since my initial visit, I have traveled extensively throughout the country and especially enjoy discovering secret places off of the beaten path. Together with Abderrahman Idrissi, my Moroccan husband who has over 20 years experience in the tourism industry, we enlisted the help of his brothers (who serve as our in-country tour managers) to create Morocco Immersion Tours & Adventures. As a family business, we enjoy developing relationships with our guests that continue beyond their trips to Morocco and our goal is for our guests to leave with a little of our love for the country and its people.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"People always ask me what there is to do in Morocco and I always reply that an easier question would be what can't you do there! And we can help you with all of it. Of course, we share the rich history and the important landmarks that any tour to Morocco includes, but we also provide unique opportunities to mix and mingle with the locals that allow our guests to gain insight into day to day life. So if you are looking for an authentic experience (budget or luxury) that takes you off the beaten path, then we are the company for you. And if you want to throw in a little hiking, trekking, rock climbing, mountain biking, surfing, kite-surfing, mule trekking, horseback riding, or even skiing (yes, I said skiing), we can do that, too!"

How did you get involved in travel?

"My path towards a career in travel was a crooked one, but began with a vacation to Morocco in 2012 where I met the most amazing guide, Abderrahman (Abdou for short). He was so amazing, in fact, that after a few more visits we decided to get married. After he had settled into life in the United States, an opportunity presented itself for us to create Morocco Immersion Tours & Adventures. And so, after many years of discussion, we "pulled the trigger" and Morocco Immersion was born."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Obviously, my trip to Morocco in 2012 was life changing - talk about transformative travel experiences! Besides meeting my soulmate on that trip, I was mesmerized by the desert and upon my return dreamt about it for 30 nights in a row. Abdou told me that that was the magic of the desert. In subsequent trips, I got to learn more about the culture and meet more of the locals, and that's when I discovered that despite the breathtaking beauty of the landscapes, the true beauty of Morocco is the rich culture and the warmth and generosity of its people. "

From the first communications, we could tell that Sharon would be a great travel partner for us: she is responsive, courteous, and full of helpful ideas. Those traits carried through out our planning and travel process; we never felt like we were on our own. The driver who was assigned to us helped us for our entire nine day trip; he was personable, very thoughtful, and kept our safety top of mind. When we settled in each destination, we found the accommodations selected by Sharon and her team to be quite lovely and very culturally authentic. The guides arranged at each site were all friendly, knowledgeable, and adept at speaking multiple languages. Our first trip to Morocco was most certainly made possible because of Morocco Immersion and it left us confident that we will return to this colorful and vibrant country.

This was our least favorite location of our trip — so many we are holding it to the standards set by the other locations. We understand that we are in the middle of the desert, so accommodations are limited, but this site was just not for us. It was very hot — and there is no ventilation in the tents — windows to open or ways to get air flow. The site says you can sleep under the stars — but they offered no way to do that. When we arrived, there was a group of 14-16 young adults who had, shall we say, a different energy level than us and stayed up all night — aided by a site provided drum circle. The food was ok and there was no accommodation possible for food allergies.

Tips for future travelers

Make sure you bring beverages with you as the options are limited, not cold, and very expensive. Also, depending on the length of your stay, figure out how not to bring all your luggage as there are a lot of bugs and sand gets in everything.

This hotel is very lovely — a bit of a drive to get to, but worth the trip. Though on the major road, it is very quiet and feels hidden with the back of the property set in to the countryside. The food was delicious and the staff was so incredibly kind. There is a beautiful pool on the roof as well — though we didn’t have time to enjoy that, we did use the roof for star gazing. We would most certainly recommend this property.

We loved this property most of all. The setting was spectacular— there are private flower and vegetable gardens to your, a family donkey who has quite the personality, and a quiet/calm setting that felt so welcoming. The pool and patio are lovely and perfect for unwinding and outdoor dining. The staff was too kind and accommodating— one of the only spots that truly understood a gluten food allergy. The guest rooms were spacious, the common areas allows for guest interactions. Our room even had a walk out patio as we were on the first floor. You can also easily walk to town (~1 mile) where there is a market and local vendors to enjoy. Unfortunately we only had one night here, but we would definitely visit again.

Our opinion is a bit swayed as we visited during the major music festival in June 2022), but this property upon arrival left a lot to be desired. The team seemed disorganized and could not figure out our room — we wait for nearly an hour only to discover there was no room available. They were able to accommodate us with a room to use temporarily and then while we were out they moved our belongings. Spending only one night, we also needed to leave early the next day, before breakfast would be prepared, and they were not able to accommodate an early start (by 30 minutes). Eventually they agreed to prepare a bagged option — no consideration for food allergies — but this seemed like a big lift. We have traveled to plenty of international properties were some help is offered proactively to travelers leaving early, but such service seemed beyond this hotel. We mention this because this property was definitely the largest property we visited and they seemed the least guest focused.

Tips for future travelers

Essaouria is an energetic city — be prepared for noise throughout the evening.

A beautiful property that surprises you the moment you step through the plain and nearly camouflaged front door. The team was incredibly inviting and helpful. There is a beautiful pool in the center of the property with a restaurant and tables around the perimeter. Dinner is offered — it is a bit pricey but very delicious and worth the price. There is an exercise room — you have to ask for access at the front desk. The guest room was spacious and the bathroom was huge. We were very pleased with this property.

Tips for future travelers

Dinner is expensive and a fixed menu; if that is not your preference, suggest finding an option outside of the property.

Planning our trip with Sharon was effortless. She was extremely responsive and took care of our every question and concern. Our driver and guide, Hussein became like family. His excellent driving and language skills aside, he is one of the most compassionate, kind and caring human beings that I have ever met. He made our trip very special. I highly recommend Kimkim and especially Hussein. Moroccan’s are some of the nicest, accommodating people we have met while traveling. The country’s landscape is gorgeous with gorges, valleys and stellar panoramic views. Staying in Riad’s in the Medina’s is extra special. The food is excellent, albeit a bit repetitive. Other cuisines are available in larger cities and Hussein took us somewhere different when we had enough tangines. We did a 6 day immersion from Marrakech (city guide one day and hike/gardens the second - Dades Valley - camel ride and camp in the dessert and up to Fez for 2 days. Be prepared for a couple of LONG driving days. There is much to see and it’s hard to nap because you don’t want to miss anything. I would recommend getting an antibiotic from your doctor prior to your trip as we experienced traveler’s diarrhea although we didn’t drink tap water, we did consume all fruits and vegetables. They were too good to resist. Morocco is a country that bargains when purchasing items. Be prepared. We had separate guides for Marrakech, Dades Valley and Fez. We wished we could have had our Hussein for these excursions as well. Their English was very good and knowledge extensive but they clearly received a commission from specific shops. Some tours included an instructional demonstration of a specific craft which we very much enjoyed but typically lead to a gift shop and sales pitch afterwards. We have found this to be true in other countries and on other tours. This is how they make their money and it’s good to be prepared. It’s important to have a mind set of traveling to experience another culture and be prepared to not to have every creature comfort of home (lack of toiletries, subpar linens/towels, temperamental toilets or lack of toilet paper, no half & half for coffee). My favorite experience was having tea with a Berber family and seeing how they live, their daily routine and the “appliances” they use. The Medina in Fez was also a high point. Taking in the countryside and views during the drive and having conversation with Hussein about himself, the culture and norms from his perspective was also a highlight. Morocco is not to be missed, especially with Hussein and knowing that Sharon is an email away. Go and have a great time!

I must start saying we were the only 2 on our camel trek and their only 6 total at the camp which made for a unique wonderful experience. Our pictures from the early evening and return morning rides were spectacular. The camp itself was in good shape. The tent was warm and beds abit too firm but your in the middle of a beautiful setting. The food served was plentiful and good. You can bring your own wine if you want. There is no communication about waking early to see the sunrise so plan that on your own and you’ll be very happy w the overall experience.

I've been eager to write this post - and I usually don't review anything at length (if at all!) BUT, this experience requires it - and I hope it helps you decide.
If you do this trip with Morocco Immersion thru KimKim, WITH SHARON - you will have NO disappointments!
PEOPLE: 1. from the first contact I had with Sharon, I was hooked.
I messaged Sharon with some quick, random questions and she was quick to reply. She replied to everything I asked - promptly, generously and courteously. She was patient and answered the smallest concerns I had. She focussed on designing the trip I wanted and was hoping for. (The trip with Morocco Immersion is not a "pre-planned, 8 other people we didn't know with varying agendas" joining us.
It was designed for us.) And it was reasonably priced which made me skeptical at first!
SHARON totally knows what she's doing!
2. Our driver: SALLAM - He was THE BEST. Really. He's young - yet knew his country, its history, the places we were going, and was proud of his own culture while being super respectful of ours. Sallam was welcoming and always attentive to our questions and needs. He was an excellent driver over some 2500km in 10 days - and was always stopping at all the best look-outs before I even asked! He met with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed and knew what was coming up next. He was friendly, humourous, and engaged. Great guide! Highly recommended!
3. Our tour guides: in Marrakech, The Sahara and Taroudant knew their landscape, the history and the best places to get authentic food, pottery, jewelry, leather-wear, carptes, argon oil, saffron - you name it. They worked hard at being welcoming and informative. STELLAR guides.
FOOD: My husband and I are foodies. The experience of drinking daily mint tea (poured properly with bubbles ;-)), eating tagines and even street food from vendors, was awesome. We tried lots of different things, including fresh fish in Essaouiria - bought by us and then grilled in the fish market right before our eyes. We often had fresh squeezed, "any kind of fruit juice" right in the markets we visited.
Our ACCOMODATIONS were a mix of luxury to 'comfortable with other types of conveniences'. Our rooms were always clean, with private washrooms and tiled floors and walls. The riads were both historically interesting and visually appealing. We drank it all in! The luxury accomodations we had, sometimes with dinner included, were worth writing home about. The bedding was always crisp and clean. Lovely. (We did the luxury Sahara camp on our trip - it was one of the highlights of our trip for reasons that would be apparent if you go.)
OVER-ALL - I know this is a long review, but I totally recommend Sharon, Sallam and 'Morroco Immersion' even to people who have had no previous interest in going to Morocco!
It was a trip of a lifetime - and worth every penny we spent.

The room, though a little small, was visually appealing. The furniture was exotic ... the layout was interesting, the food delicious and the maze of hallways and corners to sit, read, nap and drink tea on the roof-top, were very luxurious. It was a quiet, safe, lovely riad. (They have a small pool which we cooled off in every day. I saw someone complain about the water being cold. ??? It was. And it was perfect after a long, hot day on the walking tour and in the souks.)

Tips for future travelers

Enjoy the perks of this exotic riad. Take time to cozy up in a corner to drink tea or linger over a converstaion. It has great places to 'be'.

From the moment you arrive you are served hot mint tea and are treated to pampering and care by the staff. The camp is visually appealing - with colour, lighting and outdoor seating areas. The inside is comfortable and clean. It's in the desert - yet had a private toilet and shower! (What?) It was a little warm inside, but did NOT feel like camping! It was luxury in the desert.

Tips for future travelers

Stay up late to watch the sun go down and stars come out. Get up before sunrise and climb a dune to watch sun up. It's spectacular. Wear sandals - not shoes. The sand is cool in the morning. Have a shower when you get there and dress up a little for dinner. It feels like you're in a great, romantic movie. <3

Cleanliness & Comfort

Because it was in the desert - the accomodation deserve a 5 star - but it isn't quite the same as being in a riad with tiled floors and walls. It was more than great - but also not a 'building'. It's a fabulous tent!
Staff

Authenticity & Character

You travel over an hour by camel to get the camp. While there are other camps nearby, the way the camps are set up allows you to feel private once you arrive. The attention to detail: the lighting, evening fire and music, the dinner (3 courses+), and the welcoming tea and cookies was really inviting.

The list of what I liked is too long. It was pretty perfect.

This stop was probably my favourite. (Other than the Sahara camp ... Also my favourite!) The kasbah was old, clean and inviting (with oranges right on the trees in the courtyard). We had a traditional band playing the night we were there. The building is historic and exotic. The outdoor dining area over-looks a palm grove. The indoor dining area is beautifully romantic, and the pool overlooks the mountains. What's not to like? The rooms were very large, with working wifi and airconditioning. The beds were comfortable and the linens were clean and crisp. Perfect stop.

Tips for future travelers

Be sure to tour the near-by kasbah if you have time. It has a rich history and is still inhabited by locals. Also - take time and don't rush. Enjoy the views from outdoor dining area and share a drink or meal in the late afternoon when things are slowing down.

So - the upstairs terrace was really lovely. The rooms were dated and a little uncomfortable - but clean! We had a fellow guest's dog - unleashed - nip the back of my husband's leg while we were there so I think that kinda threw us off of our experience of this riad. (It was 'fine' - clean and safe... but not overly appealing otherwise.)

Cleanliness & Comfort

This riad was inside the old city, easy to access and in a safe neighbourhoood. It was more than enough for a one night stay. Breakfast was great. The view from the roof of the Atlas Mountains was lovely.

This riad is right in the hub of the old, inner city, nestled in the maze of souks and cafes. It has two or three sitting/dining areas that are exotic and well deocorated with artwork - modern and historic. The plants and lighting create a romantic, intimate mood to have a drink, a tea or cozy up for a good conversation.

Cleanliness & Comfort

The breaker in our room blew a couple of times but someone promptly attended to it. The wenting in the bathroom was poor.
Staff

Polite and helpful - not as super friendly as other places we stayed.
Authenticity & Character

Beautifully decorated - a combination of modern art and historic deco.
Location

Perfect inner city location without much noise.

From the moment we started contact with Sharon, she listened and tweaked the itinerary to make it exactly what me and my family (two teens) were looking for. Once the itinerary was finalized, we couldn’t wait to start our adventure!
And then we met Sallam, who was our driver and companion between destinations, and he ended up becoming like part of our family. From the moment he met us at the airport, his warm smile assured us that we were in good hands. He shared with us his background and Berber culture, and as we drove along the most scenic landscapes, he played for us the most beautiful Berber music. I loved the music so much that I actually downloaded it to my phone and listen to it at home.
We visited the beautiful blue city of Chefchaoen, walked through the bustling medinas of Fes and Marrakech, but I think the highlight of our trip was the Sahara Desert!! My family will never forget riding camels over the dunes at sunset, sleeping in a luxury desert camp, sand boarding at sunrise, and driving ATV vehicles over the orange sand dunes once more. Memories that will last a lifetime!
I truly want to thank everyone at Morocco Immersion Tours - Sharon, Sallam, Amnay, and everyone else who helped us make this the trip of a lifetime. I honestly feel that traveling helps make friendships across continents, and I will always love you guys. This is by far the best tour company that we have ever used, and I highly recommend them to all future travelers to Morocco!

Sharon at Morocco Immersion did an excellent job planning our trip and Hicham did a wonderful job executing that plan. The plan that was created was flexible enough to change as needed. All of our accommodations were clean and provided the service rating that we selected (some better, some right at star rating). Breakfast and meals that were included in the plan were put together well. We had two minor events during the trip, but the team immediately made things right. We thoroughly adored exploring the country of Morocco!!

As an experienced long time traveler, our guide Hicham was fabulous and truthfully he became our friend. I have invited him and Sharon to visit if they ever make it to CA. Not only was he attentive to all our needs he actually had us over in his apartment for Moroccan Pizza one night.

The 2 cooking classes at Abdouls home and Khadija's was so yummy. The food so delicious, fresh and creative. Love those Tangines. We loved the tourists places to eat along with the locals as well. I have to say during this tumultuous time in our lives dealing with Covid 19, this trip was a piece of cake. Never did we feel uncomfortable throughout Morocco and flying on a different airlines was a piece of cake.

My favorite of course was riding the camels in the Sarah Desert to our camp. The sand and its color and shades made my heart sing. The food so good, the drums and our lodging reminded me so much of safaris in southern Africa. My roomy and me got up to see the sun rise. Our tents were so beautiful and luxurious. I decided not to ride the camel back but 4 wheeled back to the start. Yippee over the dunes. But the sand and the shadows was captivating. I had to ask Mustafa to stop to I could take it all in. I could have stayed another few days.

I could go on and on, but if you are thinking of Morocco, please contact this great company and request Sharon.

If you're looking for a private guided tour around Morocco, this is the one for you.

Morocco Immersion had been very open and engaging about planning our trip ever since we reached out to them about our wants and needs. Basically, we gave them a template of what kind of travelers we were, how long we wanted to travel, what general places we wanted to see, and what kind of accommodations we wanted to stay in. Through multiple, quick back-and-forth conversations via chat, Morocco Immersion was able to hone in on our ideal trip and even gave suggestions and recommendations when we were stuck in our decision-making. At one point, when our flights were completely canceled a week before the start of our trip and we were able to secure new flights but on different dates, Morocco Immersion was very understanding and adjusted our trip willingly and accordingly, without hesitation.

The trip itself was absolutely wonderful. Unlike the huge group tours advertised everywhere, our small group of three travelers felt really comfortable with our personal guide and driver Hicham, who assured us about our safety and comfort. We felt that even though we had a defined itinerary set beforehand, that we could easily deviate from it if we wanted to. That was the huge advantage with booking with Morocco Immersion as a small private group!

The whole tour was up to our expectations. From the tours of Rabat to Meknes and Volubilis to Fez, the Sahara, Dades, and Marrakech, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Each place had its own charm, and when we shared with Hicham that we wanted to try to eat where the locals do, he gladly obliged and took us to authentic, less touristy places to munch on real local eats, and I thought that was just perfect.

And despite one minor hiccup with our accommodation in Marrakech, Morocco Immersion stepped up to the plate and offered to rectify the situation. The team readily made things right by us, and I don't think you'll ever get that kind of service with a much larger, impersonal company or with a really large touring group.

I would highly recommend Morocco Immersion if you're truly considering an authentic experience of Morocco, one that is not just touristy stuff. You will not regret your choice.

I had broken my foot a few weeks before our trip and he was so thoughtful and took care to make sure I was comfortable and adjusted the schedule and challenges of some of the excursions to accommodate my limitations.
Our excursion tour guides were very friendly, enthusiastic and very informative.
The Camel trek into the desert was a moment I will remember forever. Seeing the Sunset over the dunes and staying the night in the Luxury camp was truly an experience beyond my expectations.
I cannot express enough how much I appreciate Morocco Immersions dedication to providing such a wonderful tour.

The trip could not be a success without Hischam, our tour manager, guide and driver. He coordinated all the local guides to be available based on our arrival and schedule. The local guides at every location where super knowledgeable and spoke excellent english.

Hischam is also an experienced and careful driver. The vehicles provided were in great condition and the ride was super smooth.

Sharon booked us a camel ride from Merzouga into the desert and booked premium desert camp to spend the night. I would highly recommend everyone to include this in your tour. In this COVID time where a PCR test is required to board the return flight, I would recommend you stay two days at your final destination (Marrakesh or Casablanca) so you can take care of that detail.

Thank you Sharon for all your support and thank you Hischam for your help every step of the way.

It's like waking up to find a previously-unknown Moroccan branch of your family (that your really like) and they have volunteered to plan and execute for you an in-depth tour of this beautiful, exotic country. We set a high bar- as experienced travelers we wanted liberty to enjoy and explore on our own, but we also did not want to miss anything that might pass without expert assistance. They nailed it. The accommodations were located in just the right spots, luxurious but authentic, each offering high design and surroundings guaranteed to create lasting memories. The touring could have been a burden because there were many hours of driving; instead, thanks to Amnay's pitch perfect personality, combining attentiveness with friendly approachability, the hours flew by as we shared favorite Spotify playlists, talked about Morocco's history and culture, and compared notes on life and family. Even when we weren't with him, he was looking ahead to the next destination to confirm arrangements and make our trip more enjoyable. The whole experience was nothing short of awesome.

What we learned in the 11 days spent touring this beautiful and mystical country, will stay with us forever, especially the camel trekking in The Sahara, the glamorous camp in the desert, the beautiful blue streets of Chefchaouen, the donkey ride in the medina of Fes and so much more!!! We could not be more grateful to Sharon, Hicham and all those whom Morocco Immersion Tours & Adventures contracted to make our experience perfect!! They were all dedicated to our comfort, kind and helpful!!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! We cannot wait to take more trips with you!!!

My guide for the trip was Amnay. Besides being fluent in English, he is a helluva great guy, very friendly and strives to give you a 10+ time. (And if you ask him nicely, he'll even perform an incredible song or two in his native Berber!). From Casablanca to Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains, the Dades Valley to the Rose Valley, the Sahara, Fes, Chefchouen and then Rabat, Morocco Immersion repeatedly delivered. Their great relationships with restaurants, local guides and hotels will result in a grand pay off for you.

So what are you waiting for? Decide what you want to do in this incredible country and Morocco Immersion will give you the trip of a lifetime.

Thank you so much Amnay and Sharon (and everyone else with Morocco Immersion)

Thanks, Michael, for the awesome review! We are so glad that you had such an amazing experience. Amnay shared some of the pictures of the trip and we enjoyed looking at them. They reminded me of my very first trip to Morocco many years ago before it was quite so popular. I guess that is definitely a pro of traveling during this time - getting to experience the country without throngs of tourists!

Glad everything went well and keep us posted on your future adventures!

In Tangier we were met by Hicham, our driver and guide for the next 15 days. In very short order we realized that our trip would be greatly enhanced with him as manager. He attended to our individual needs and interests and his knowledge of Moroccan history, straight-forward analysis, sense of humor and enthusiasm kept us all focused on learning as much as possible about his people and their culture. All of that, and the many miles of safe, error-free driving, often in tight quarters, added to our enjoyment. From Tangier to Marrakesh we delighted in the many geographical and cultural offerings. I was picked up at Tangier airport by Mubarek, a really personable Berber, who drove me to a bank and ATM and then to see the seaside towns on our way to the blue city of Chefchauen. My accommodations at Riad Hicham were really nice. My only complaint is that there is NO heat in any public areas, ex: reception, restaurant , courtyards. I wore all my clothing. Would have liked a warning. This is not a fluke, as I encountered it in my riad is Fes. Besides that, once fully wrapped up, I had the best dinner and desert with the best darn service. Breakfast the next morning was just as delicious. After breakfast we headed to Vollolobis , Meknes and Fes. We drove thru the most beautiful agricultural area that reminded me of California, but way more green. The citrus was everywhere and served fresh all over the place. I had a guide in Meknes who was very informative about the history, the buildings and the market. I was taken to Fes and stayed at another great riad, Riad Al-Makan. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Upon arrival I was served mint tea and 2 pieces of cake (Yes!) Had a wonderful chicken tagine dinner with great vegetables, olives, and bread. The next day I had a great tour thru the medina and souk with my guide, Mustafa. I saw the tile making which was a big thing on my list, also the tannery, cactus silk scarves, and carpets. Including All the artisans from copper and brass to wood carving. Warning, the wood is cedar, in case your allergic, which I am. The following day after breakfast, we left for Casablanca. I stayed at Club V’al Danfa hotel, with a great view of the ocean, comfy bed and great breakfast buffet served. I toured Il Hasan Mosque, which was an amazing piece of architecture. The next day Mubarek picked me up at the hotel and drove me to the Casablanca airport.
I really liked Mubarek and all my guides. I felt safe and taken care of and I appreciate how hard everyone worked for my private tour. Thank you.

I visited Morocco for 12 days in December and had a wonderful time, thanks to a large part due to the services provided by Morocco Immersion Tours.
Let’s start with trip planning: I travel a fair bit (had been on the road for weeks) and had left booking this itinerary to November! I had an idea of the places I wanted to visit and was looking for a private car & driver to drive me around the country + expert guidance on the itinerary. That’s exactly what I got with Sharon. She got in touch with me promptly (within a day or less) and made suggestions and modifications to my proposed itinerary to make the most of my time there. We went back and forth a couple of times and within a couple of days my itinerary was locked & loaded.
Now let’s look at the actual experience. As a solo female traveler, safety is a priority. I was provided an English speaking driver/tour manager, Ali, who was awesome!! The SUV was in great condition and perfect for a 9 day drive around the country (I spent 3 days in Marrakech at the start and then started the roadtrip - overnight pit stop in Rabat on the way to Chefchaouen (1 night), 2 nights in Fes, overnight pit stop in Midelt, 2 nights in Merzouga, 1 night in Dades and back to Marrakech). Ali speaks 4-5 languages including English, is very knowledgeable about the country, politics, culture, etc. We had many interesting conversations and debates on various topics during the drive around the country. He was very professional, courteous and invested in making sure I got the most of my time in Morocco.
I had wanted to spend NYE in the desert but by the time I was ready to book, all the luxury desert camps were fully booked. Sharon managed to find me a tent at a luxury camp and it was fantastic.
There weren’t any issues during the trip but for the one off issue, Ali & Sharon were super diligent and responsive.
Now here’s an example of them going over and beyond. During my second day in Marrakech, during the tour of the Souks, I purchased a bunch of Argan oil from this herbalist that appeared to be legit and was given the ok by my local guide. I should have known better - there are enough and more blogs online warning tourists against buying Argan oil at the souks and videos showing how to distinguish genuine from the fake. I unfortunately figured it out too late. I shared this with Ali and asked him to take me the source (a cooperative) in the high Atlas Mountains on our way back to Marrakech as I definitely wanted to purchase genuine Argan oil before I left the country. I was happy with my purchase. I gave the bad oil to Ali to hand over to anyone in need who could use the oil for cooking purposes. I considered the money I had spent as a loss and forgot about it by the time I got stateside. But Ali and team didn’t let it go. They got in touch with the local guide who had taken me to the store, went to the store, returned the products and asked for a refund. They got the refund and are arranging to return the amount to me. I was not expecting this at all!! This is going over and beyond!
Morocco is a beautiful country and the people are gentle and friendly. I loved my time there and am so happy I booked with Morocco immersion tours!
Thank you Sharon, Ali and Abdoul!

We may have driven him mad with all our questions (sorry Hicham) but he was at all time super professional and such a great calm driver in the sometimes not so calm traffic. We are usually independent travellers and don't use organised travel like this, but for a variety of reasons this way suited us better this trip. We're not big tour group people so we loved the personal insight into Morocco that travelling this way provided. The guides at the attractions were all great, different and really interesting. Their high level of English helped us understand the history and pride in their family, culture, history and country.
Trekking into the desert on camels and 'freezing our bits off' in the Sahara was an invigorating highlight and we loved it so much. We gained so much respect, knowledge and understanding for the Berber people and their history and culture ( thanks again Hicham and guides). It would have been possible for us to travel through Morocco with a guide book and just read stuff but we are so glad we travelled with KimKim instead. Our trip was rich and rewarding and we have developed a deep affection for Morocco and its gentle people. Thanks everyone who made it happen so seamlessly ( especially the last minute travel/accommodation change so we could meet our flight with more ease).
Best wishes Sharon, Hicham and the KimKim Moroccan team.

Riding camels and ATVs in the desert, visiting nomads, exploring the kasbahs, the blue city, cooking tagone and couscous...It’s impossible to choose what was the most run or most memorable. Our guide Amnay was fantastic! He was very knowledgable, articulate, entertaining, flexible and accommodating. The local guides at specific sites were also excellent without exception. My husband and I just returned from an amazing trip to Morocco. Before planning the itinerary, I spoke at length with Sharon regarding our travel preferences--likes, dislikes, interests, favorite trips of the past and expectations. She listened and put together an incredible adventure. Mobark, our driver, picked us up at the airport in Marrakesh and was with us the next 8 days. He is a GEM! We were safe, comfortable and cared for as he positively--never without a smile--helped us navigate through a country of wonders--from Marrakesh, through the Atlas Mountains to Dades, to the Sahara Desert (for camel riding and camping on the desert under the stars), to Fes, Meknes, many small towns and villages in between and, finally, to Tangier where he deposited us right in front of airport departures! He introduced us to local guides in cities where we learned so much about Moroccan history and culture. Our local guides were kind and genuinely excited to share their knowledge as we walked through miles of markets, palaces and gardens. While in Fes, as we spent an afternoon wandering on our own, our guide from Marrakesh noticed us trying to figure out a map and he embraced us as if we were his long lost relatives--how incredible is that?!

The lodging was truly special as we stayed in top rated riads throughout our stay. The service at each was better than the last!

It is significant to note that, on our tour and understandably given the enormity of the country and the varying terrain, we spent a great deal of time in the SUV each day. This was unavoidable and gave us the opportunity to see as much as possible before departing. Critically, Mobark's driving was impressive. Never once did we feel unsafe as he navigated across some pretty difficult mountain switchbacks.

Finally, we were given the unique opportunity to have lunch with MoBark's family. The day started with shopping in the local market for the vegetables and meats to be included in our lunch. Prepared by his mother, sister and several other women in the family home, we were welcome and given access to a day in the life of a Moroccan family. How will we ever eat American made couscous, olives or tagine again?!

I would certainly recommend Sharon and her team to personally tailor a once in a lifetime adventure in Morocco!

The tour was very well organised. Our driver + tour guide, Amnay, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He’s been very punctual and caring of our needs. Most importantly, he’s a very safe driver, which meant a lot to us because we could spend up to 8 hours on the road in a day. My partner and I wanted somewhere warm to visit in November, with good views and lots to see and explore. Morocco certainly delivered and we couldn’t have organised the trip without kimkim and Morocco Immersion.
We’re busy working people and didn’t have enough time to independently research where to go, what to do in Morocco and investigate what’s feasible to achieve in one week. The process of booking the trip through kimkim was smooth and easy. Sharon, our tour organiser, was so helpful throughout and even when we changed our minds endlessly on what we could achieve in a week of visiting Morocco, she was incredibly patient and accommodating to our changing preferences. Sharon made sure the holiday was tailored to what we wanted and gave great advice on where we should visit and what we should do. Given Sharon was a real expert in the area, her suggestions were invaluable so that we got exactly what we wanted out of the holiday.
We decided on having 1 full day in Marrakech before moving on to explore the Atlas Mountains, Sahara Desert and surrounding areas for 4 days of travelling. The final 2 days of the tour would see us return to Marrakech for some ‘downtime’ so that we could explore the fascinating city in our own time.
We had a private driver for the duration of the trip, Hicham, who went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time possible without having to stress about what we were doing each day. In each location we visited, a local tour guide would greet us and take us on some incredible adventures. The organisation and transition to each individual tour was flawless. We’d arrive in a new location and within 5 minutes, we were whisked off to ride camels, walk through bustling markets, eat dates from palm trees and visit movie sets!
Morocco Immersion who gave us the tour were incredible. Hicham was so kind and considerate - he took us to all the best spots for great photos and was so careful not to impose, ensuring we still had alone time as well. Our favourite part of the tour was the night in the desert, which we travelled to by camel while the sun was setting. The sunrise the next day was simply stunning as well; a moment we’ll never forget admiring the sun rising only surrounded by the Saharan sand.

There was a lot of driving on the trip but it didn’t feel too bad as it was constantly broken up by regular stops and guided tours along the way. Marrakech can feel quite overwhelming as a tourist, however with a guide it’s far better. Through kimkim and Morocco Immersion, we really were provided with a truly immersive experience they promise, enabling us to learn about the culture, the history and fall in love with the beautiful country. Thank you for a brilliant experience, we cannot wait to return!

Sallam did a remarkable job of knowing when to share stories/sights while also knowing when to give us time to relax. He adjusted his driving based on our comfort level. Sallam was not only a wonderful guide but he is now a friend that we plan to keep in touch with. He made the experience much more enjoyable especially given how long of a drive it was.

Overall, the desert experience was very fun. The camel ride was very nice and the sand dunes were beautiful. The camp was very nice and we were looking forward to enjoying the experience under the stars at night. However, unfortunately the high winds caused us to have to stay inside. The amenities were above expectations with the nice toilet and shower. We were a bit disappointed to not have more time at the camp in the morning. After breakfast, we were quickly pushed to pack up and leave the site. We expected more time in the morning to enjoy the desert in peace.

Overall it was a very nice experience. The driving time was a bit much but the Camp was quite nice. Sallam made the experience so much more enjoyable for us. He was the best driver/guide we could have asked for.

We contacted KimKim only about 4 weeks before our trip and were quickly connected with Moroccan Immersion/Sharon. Sharon was extremely helpful -- and patient! -- in recommending options for our 6 day trip, jumping on the phone with me at least a few times for me to ask (many) questions, and to flexing on timing/price when we needed to reduce our total costs. The tour itself was wonderful -- a mix of 'typical' experiences (e.g., walks around the souks in Marrakech) coupled with unique and differentiated experiences that Moroccan Immersion helped arrange (e.g., a visit to a women's rug making cooperative followed by lunch with the 3 rug weavers; spending a night in a luxury desert camp coupled with a pre-dawn hike up the mountain to see the sunrise). Abdou was a real pleasure to have as a guide -- his love for and knowledge of his country and his heritage is impressive, and really came across in the tour. Abdou also did a great job of connecting us to local guides (e.g., in Marrakech, in Taroudant), who were equally knowledgeable and friendly. In all, I would highly, highly recommend Moroccan Immersion if you are interested in planning a trip to this remarkable country.

Sharon was excellent - very prompt, responsive, knowledgeable, proactive and was extremely valuable in setting-up our trip plan, how we can make the most value of our limited time and resources without compromising the experience. Equally, Amnay, our tour guide and driver was excellent, particularly at keeping us safe and secure; providing us with excellent restaurant recommendation, enriching our gastronomic experience and accompanying us any time of day and night. The other local guides, specially Mohammed of Fes, were pleasant, knowledgeable and flexible in accommodating and answering our questions. Thanks super Sharon and Amnay for this memorable experience for our family.

The agency did a great job of making ensuring my comfort during my time there. My guide mr.hicham was extremely hospitable and courteous. I throughly enjoyed my trip .my only mistake for fly Air Maroc
They delayed my flight and lost baggage and no customer service to help passengers.

Hi Sumi! So sorry to hear about your trouble with Royal Air Maroc, but glad that you enjoyed your short trip with us (and Hicham) after you arrived! I hope the rest of your time in Morocco has been equally enjoyable and just let us know if you need anything else!

Thanks, again, from the entire Morocco Immersion team!
Best regards,

I actually never thought it was possible to put together such a great and personalized trip in about 24 hours! Huge thanks to the entire team!

Marocco certainly doesn’t lack of natural beauty, and distinctive buildings of mosques, riads, and kasbahs. What makes every place special though is the kindness and friendliness of the people.

I would not only travel with Morocco Immersion again but also recommended it to anyone who aims to get away from the mass, and experience Marocco on a personal level.

Huhe thanks to the team and all family members!

They have provided a service tailored to individual interest with trip planning at an affordable price for our trip to Marrakesh. Morocco.

Sharon, my trip advisor, was very attentive and very helpful in not only dealing with my changing plans but adding to my interest in our trip to Morocco, in particular, Marrakesh. I originally was going for a 5 day trip. I changed it at least 3 times and ended up with a 4 day trip only to Marrakesh. Sharon helped me at every turn and even added a cooking class to our schedule at the last minute.

Richard, our personal driver and guide in Marrakesh was on time, had a smile, and had something interesting to say and add to the days tour. He above all was flexible with our schedule allowing us time to explore more interesting places or people. He is also the best driver I have ever seen. Driving in Marrakesh is beyond crazy-- he was in complete control.

Kalib and his wife conducted our cooking class. It was not at some business address, rather it was at their house in the middle of Marrakesh. They opened their house to us, took us to the local market to buy the food we were going to cook that night. We also met several of their family members as well. We were there for several hours and the food was delicious. The Moroccan spices and cooking style was easy to follow and extremely interesting. This was a truly unique experience to meet and be with a local family at their house, in a local neighborhood and see their lifestyle.

Kimkim found and provided a really unique experience for my time in Marrakech. I will never forget it. Thank You.

We just got back from our 8-day imperial city tour from Morocco last weekend. I have to say that it was the best planned trip I've ever had, and my husband and I have traveled A LOT! We just got back from our 8-day imperial city tour from Morocco last weekend. I have to say that it was the best planned trip I've ever had, and my husband and I have traveled A LOT! We wanted to plan a special trip for our ten year anniversary but with our work schedules, three weeks before our trip the only thing we had booked were our plane tickets! So in a panic, I started researching online for hotels and sights and felt totally overwhelmed, in the past we've planned our own trips no problem but this time we just didn't have the time. I stumbled upon kimkim and it was like magic. Within a couple of days our Morocco travel specialist Sharon, had sent us a complete itinerary with hotels, transportation and tours, it was AMAZING! We felt such a weight off our shoulders and all we had to do was pack our bags and get on the plane. When we arrived, just like Sharon assured us, we had a driver waiting for us at the airport to begin our Moroccan adventure. Our driver Salam was with us for half of the trip and then we had another driver for the second half of the trip. We could not have asked for a better introduction to all things Morocco, we absolutely loved Salam and were very sad to part ways with him half way through our trip but we wanted to be flexible as Morocco Immersion had been very flexible with us, accommodating our last minute requests. Our second driver Abdulah was also great, so we felt very lucky to have two great guides during our time there. We would highly recommend Morocco Immersion, the local travel company we used through kimkim, and would highly recommend booking your trip through kimkim. It was so easy and secured. We were so pleasantly surprised, as this was our first time using this service and now we are spoiled, I don't think we'll ever go back to planning trips on our own. We got so much more from this vacation than any other trip before and the best part it was completely customized to meet our needs. The level of accommodations and the transportation provided by Morocco Immersion were top notch, we were very pleased. We can't say enough good things about this experience!

Thanks, Kimi, for the great review. We are so happy that your experience great! Our goal is for all of our guests to leave Morocco with a piece of it stamped on their soul, or at the very least, with an appreciation for why we love this country so much! And although we normally do not switch drivers halfway through the tour as we know that isn't ideal, we definitely appreciated your understanding and flexibility in this situation. We hope that you'll return to Morocco one day and let us show you more of this amazing place. Thanks again!
